MEET TREY MALICOAT, M.S.

You deserve to be seen.
Beyond what you’ve survived.

I’m Trey. I help people understand the patterns beneath their suffering and begin creating a life with more freedom, connection, and purpose.

Trey Malicoat

EXPERIENCE. PRESENCE. POSSIBILITY.

Thirty years of working
with the human story.

For 30 years, my work has brought me alongside people navigating trauma, grief, uncertainty, and profound change. I have worked with survivors in the field and in the office, taught professionals, led healthcare organizations, and supported people as they rebuild their lives.

I hold a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. My experience across counseling, coaching, education, and leadership has shaped a deep respect for how people adapt, what those adaptations can cost, and the capacity people have to change.

When we work together, I want to understand the person behind the role: what you have carried, what you have needed, what has helped you survive, and what you want your life to become.

WHAT I BRING TO OUR WORK

Depth in the experience.
Care in the conversation.

Alongside trauma survivors

In-field and in-office work has taught me to make room for grief, pain, silence, and uncertainty. I pay attention to the ways people protect themselves and to the strengths that can be difficult to recognize while suffering.

A teacher’s commitment

I have taught at the University of Denver, Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, and Western Oregon University. My professional teaching has also taken me across communities in the United States and New Zealand. In our work, I help you understand the process and practice what you are learning.

A whole-person perspective

My background includes leading regional healthcare operations and serving as a National Vice President at Homewatch CareGivers International. I understand how responsibility, relationships, work, and identity can become intertwined with the patterns we carry.

HOW I WORK WITH YOU

We look beneath what keeps repeating.

You may know that you keep the peace, take care of everyone, or push yourself to get everything right. You may be less clear about why it feels so difficult to stop, even when the cost is high.

I developed the NeuroNarrative Method as a framework for exploring those connections. Together, we examine the experiences that shaped you, the meanings you made of them, and the beliefs and protective roles that may still influence your choices.

Your persona is a starting point for our curiosity. We listen to your story to understand when that role appears, what you hope it will protect, and where you want more freedom.

There is room for your whole life.

We begin with a conversation about your goals, desires, struggles, and hopes. For clinical work, the first session is typically two hours. You come with a life timeline that includes grief and success, sorrow and opportunity, relationships, transitions, and experiences of trauma.

Through that timeline and an extensive psychosocial interview, we begin exploring possible core wounds and the beliefs that have become familiar beneath the surface. Your strengths and sources of support belong in that conversation, too.

Understanding becomes something you can use.

Our work moves toward the choices you make in daily life: expressing a need, setting a boundary, responding differently in a relationship, or making a decision that reflects what matters to you.

My goal is to help alleviate suffering as quickly and effectively as possible, then teach and support you as you create a life with more joy, peace, purpose, happiness, and love. I want you to leave with a deeper understanding of yourself and more ability to shape what comes next.

YOUR NEXT CHAPTER

You don’t have to have
all the words yet.

Tell me who you are, what feels familiar, and what you want to change. We can begin there.
